In Case You Missed It....

In case you have missed it, the latest Broadway version of South Pacific (which rocks, btw,) is going on the road.  Check it out (or catch it on PBS if you can't place theater tix).  This is a great production.  Be sure to keep an ear out for familiar South Pacific place names.  The characters sometimes overlap with many in To One Who Lives on the Mainland -- I'm thinking of the French exile, and the sweaty, tobacco-stained sailors most of all here.

Eisenhower in the Philippines

Okay, this is a little off topic from my recent posts, but I love this vintage photo of Ike in the Philippines.  These officers are the virtual comrades of fictional "The Colonel," "The Translator" and others in To One Who Lives on the Mainland.

Check out the "Philippines" chapter, then remember these gentlemen. Note the crisp uniforms.  Note the perfect lawn! Who could miss those glossy cavalry boots?
